Today, Bulle Verte® tells you everything about cleaning your washable diapers!
You want to protect the planet and your baby by using washable diapers, we are sure they thank you. But sometimes it is hard to find the right answer between tones of information.
After having spent many hours on different websites and eco-friendly shops you have finally found THE perfect washable diapers, either new or second hand. Now, you want them to be performant, tidy and long lasting for many years. We’ll tell you how to do it :
The first step: Before the first use
The washable diapers reach their maximum absorption capacity after about ten washes. For energy saving reasons, don’t be afraid, you will be able to use them before. The Bulle Verte® tips:
You are ready to get started!
The first washable diapers have just been soiled, do not panic!
Ideally, you may rinse the diaper right after stocking it or putting it to the washing machine to prevent the urine acid to damage the fabric. They will last longer.
But of course, young parents do not always have the time to rinse after every “pips”, so you also have other options :
We recommend to stock the diapers just for 3 or 4 days.
Are you tired of that “pips” smell coming out of the bucket…? Put 2 drops of organic lavender essential oil (or any suitable kind you like) in a tidy cloth (that will not be in contact with the baby skin) and dip it in the water or outside the bucket but nearby it.
HELP! Number 2 and the stains!
You can use a protective layer that you will be able to throw to the WC or to use for compost. There are 100% biodegradable layers.
For greasy stains: we advice you to avoid baby bottom creams sometimes too rich. Actually, the good thing about washable diapers is that erythema is almost inexistent. However if there are greasy stains on the diaper despite the protective layer, we suggest you to use Bulle Verte® Concentrated Dishwashing liquid on them. Leave it work on the stains for few minutes, and rinse.
For yellow stains?
Let your wet clothes dry to the sun, it works as a natural whitening on this kind of stains.
The most important is to use a soft detergent suitable for washable diapers. Fleur à Savon, Douceur or Hypoallergenic Bulle Verte® laundry detergents are perfect for this heavy duty! A laundry detergent that you can also use for all types of linens in the home, this is great!
It is possible, as mentioned above, to wash the washable diapers with the rest of your laundry.
Tip: If you have more than 5 dirty washable diapers to wash, we advise you to do a rinsing cycle before adding the rest of the laundry.
For washable diapers laundry, we should avoid:
Soap nuts, glycerin based laundry, Marseille soap based laundry that could grease your washable diapers and therefore make them less absorbent.
Bulle Verte® Detergents are free from preservatives and glycerin. Hypoallergenic laundry is even free from essential oils and perfums, so they are perfect for washable diapers and for protecting your baby skin.
Another tip, we advise you to put little doses of our detergents, as they are very performant. (half of hypoallergenic laundry cap Bulle Verte® will do, for example).
You should also avoid softeners and whiteners, or bleach. Fleur à Savon is a safe option as it has a built-in vegetable softener; its formula is safe for washing machines and protects the skin.
Remember: velcro closures can be damaged over time due to washings. To protect them, we recommend you to turn them over, fold them on themselves or to fasten them.
Attention: avoid rubbing bamboo diapers. Indeed, it would remove the pulp little by little and make absorption less effective.
Bulle Verte® detergents are performant in water from 30 ° C, that's good! because there is no point in cleaning washable diapers in more than 40 ° C water, they would wear off more quickly and you would not save money nor energy, anyways. We advise you to read carefully the diaper labels and follow the washing advices. High temperature washes will be rare and reserved for scrubbing or a deep wash after an illness (stomach flu, for example).
The spinning of the diapers should not exceed 800 revolutions / minute to avoid them wearing off.
Bulle Verte® does not recommend drying in a tumble dryer (which is forbidden for diapers TE1, TE2 and protective pants diapers), we recommend drying it outdoors.
Tip: Hemp diapers can sometimes look rough once dry, it is normal and it is not harmful for the baby. To make them flexible again, simply rub them.
Do you feel that Bulle Vert detergents slightly grease your washable diapers? We advise you to use less product, using smaller doses will solve your problem.
If you are using wool diapers, think of Bulle Verte® hand wash detergent, perfect for protecting and cleaning your wools safely.
Last step, the scrub.
Once a quarter or semester, we recommend scrubbing your washable diapers. Over time, they may seem less absorbent, your baby can become more sensitive and might risk an erythema.
That's it, you are a professional of washable diapers maintenance! None of them will ever resist your cleaning power thanks to the help of Bulle Verte®!
